What We Believe
Answers to common questions on how and why we believe what we do. back

Q: Do you baptize infants?
A: No we do not. We practice the dedication of children by their parents and we practice believer's baptism by immersion.

Q: Can I take communion as a guest at Hillcrest?
A: We practice open communion for all who believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. You do not need to be a Baptist, or a member of our church. We simply ask that you know Jesus Christ as Savior and that you approach His table with respect and with a clean heart.

Q: How old do you have to be to join the church?
A: There is no minimum age. Jesus encouraged the little children to come to Him. We believe that Jesus can meet us at any age and that in some cases, even small children can have an "adult" understanding of the saving power of Jesus.

Q: What is HBC's stance on Sexuality?
A: Hillcrest Baptist Church affirms God’s plan for marriage and sexual intimacy – one man and one woman, for life. This was the design established by God at creation. The Bible declares: “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.” (Genesis 2:24 NIV)

Throughout Scripture this heterosexual pattern is affirmed. The Bible makes no accommodation for homosexual activity or relationships. Sexual acts, whether homosexual or heterosexual, outside the circle of a heterosexual marriage are forbidden (Leviticus 20:7-21; Romans 1:24-27; I Corinthians 6:9-11).

Jesus Christ reaffirmed the divine creation intent: “Haven’t you read, he replied, that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ he said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh?’ So they are no longer two, but one.” (Matthew 19:4-6 NIV)
.
Homosexuality is not a valid “alternative lifestyle.” The Bible condemns homosexual acts as sinful. Those acts are not, however, unforgivable sin. The same redemption available to all sinners is available to homosexuals.

Hillcrest Baptist Church strives to follow the instruction and example of Jesus. He affirmed the value of all human beings and reached out with compassion to those suffering the consequences of sin. He offered caring ministry, while differentiating His love for sinners from His clear teaching about sinful practices.

Hillcrest Baptist Church recognizes that every human being is valuable in the sight of God, and we seek to minister to all men and women in the spirit of Jesus Christ.
